Brian Leavell

Mr. Brian Leavell began his utility career as an Emergency Dispatcher in 1990 with Atlanta Gas Light Company while earning his Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation from Southern Polytechnic in 1992, he progressed through various engineering roles (Field Engineer, Region Design Engineer, DOT Liaison Engineer, Corporate Engineer) where he expanded his knowledge & skills in both engineering and business.
During his 3 years within the Office of Corporate Engineering, Brian sharpened his skills in project management. He oversaw the design and construction of various CNG stations, landfill gas recovery projects and the Company’s first two Compressor Stations in Virginia; capable of remote unmanned operation from Gas Control in Atlanta.
In 2010, Brian accepted the role of Director of Construction Operations overseeing all gas transmission & distribution construction projects in Georgia & Tennessee. During his 9 years in Construction Operations, he oversaw the complete renewal of all bare steel, cast iron and early vintage plastic systems within Georgia; One of the earliest Utilities to achieve this in United States. He led a 100-member construction team overseeing approximately 1000 construction workers and managed an annual construction budget just under $400 million.
Brian was instrumental in creating/awarding & overseeing multi-year contracts for programs such as New Business, VPR (Vintage Plastic Renewal), System Integrity and the Company’s largest Strategic System Reinforcement program that included transmission lines up to 36 inches pipe diameter.
During his time in Construction Operations, Brian wrote many company policies and procedures still in effect today. He gained extensive knowledge of welding and earned his CPWI (Certified Pipeline Welding Inspector Certificate). He used this knowledge to oversee the replacement of all Company weld procedures and qualifications. In his last year with the gas company, Brian established the Company’s welding & fusing qualification center.
In 2020, Brian took a position as Vice President of Operations with Diversified Utility Services and in 2022, he moved into his current role as President. Mr. Leavell is well respected within the industry and often sought out for mentorship.
